Yet another upside-down training hike, this time including the Falls.
A month ago I hiked from Mt Wilson down to Sturtevant Falls, and then hiked back up. This time I hiked down to the Chantry Flats area and hiked back up, adding some distance and gain.
The trails in that area are confusing, but I started down the Sturtevant Trail from Mt Wilson, and it appears to also be part of the longer Gabrielino Trail. In the Falls area, I took the "Upper" Gabrielino Trail (the horse trail) down to the Chantry area. Then, I looped around but without going all the way to the Chantry Flats parking area. Then, I started the return journey on the "Lower" Gabrielino Trail. That led me to the base of the Falls.
As before, the Falls were a Touron Madhouse. I took a few pics and then, setting a bad example for said tourons, I ignored the "please use the trail" sign and scrambled up to the return trail rather than looping around. I was mostly on a use trail for that anyway.
Then, onward and upward, I briefly stopped at Sturtevant Camp and eventually reached Mt Wilson.
The stats were somewhere between 11 and 15 miles RT and over 4300' of gain. I'm going to call that a "close enough" duplication of a Rim to River dayhike.
