These mushrooms were almost fried.
After I wasn't able to get to the "Buckskin Overlook" due to the road being washed out, I drove down the road and did the easy (~1.5 miles RT) Toadstool Hoodoos Trail. It's reminiscent of the Painted Desert with multicolored sandstone and also of Bryce Canyon due to the hoodoos that are, as you might guess, in the shape of toadstools.
If I had had more time I might have tried to continue on, although that might not have been wise from a Leave No Trace perspective. It also would have been very foolish since I was in the middle of a thunderstorm.
While the hoodoos were taller than me for the most part, I didn't like my chances in the flatter areas so I just went to the end and turned around. Then, I did the "New Wave" trail, still under threat of being fried.
