Kelso Dunes

The Sahara next door, kinda.

I took a quick side trip up the Kelso Dunes in the Mojave National Preserve. I had wanted to do Kelso Peak but I got a late start as per usual. Nevertheless, the Dunes were a quite worthy objective, especially near sunset.

While hiking through deep, loose sand isn't exactly easy or fun (going up), the fun starts when you're going down. I did combos of butt-sliding (I didn't bring a sled), plunge stepping, and side stepping. I tried to slide a bit but it didn't work too well.
