This was a fairly easy DPS peak near Lucerne Valley and Victorville.
I did this with someone from the Meetup group that I ran at the time. Getting to the trailhead was a bit rough even with my Forester. I forget exactly how I deviated from the suggested route, but I started a relatively mild Class 2 scramble up a deadfall wash. I was actually enjoying that but the attendee wasn't, so I got out of the wash and began hiking up the slope next to it. From the map it didn't look like that had any cliffs or anything and that turned out to be right.
Eventually we got to the summit area and it was another mild Class 2 scramble to the top. Even though it gains about 2000' in about 1.5 miles (or less) and even though I was about 40 pounds heavier then (April 2023 vs May 2025), it wasn't extremely strenuous. It was a good bit easier than the Sheep or the Eagle.
While others say East Ord isn't memorable, I found it enjoyable and with nice views.
Afterwards, I set off alone in search of the Hercules Finger (link), a climbing destination. However, there weren't any climbers or anyone else there. On the way out, my car was momentarily perched on a bump in the road. There were OHVers in the vicinity but thankfully I didn't have to walk to get their help, after a little gunning of the engine I was able to get unstuck. Thank you, AWD.
