"What?" You're no doubt asking, because you know the two titular destinations are well over an hour apart.
It happened like this: I biked from Red Box up the Mt Disappointment Road with one simple idea in mind: getting a pic of my bike on the top of San Gabriel Peak. The road is a little steep then it levels off and there's some tree cover. The ride was fine, but then I began the hike-a-bike to the top. It was almost noon, in July, and quite hot. I was worried about getting heat stroke from pushing the bike in that weather and in the full sun.
So, I made the executive decision to seek a more favorable clime. I rode back down the road and, when I got back to my car at Red Box, the temperature was 93F. So, yeah, maybe I should have started either earlier or later.
In any case, as you've already guessed, I then drove to Ventura. IIRC it took almost two hours since there was a lot of traffic. On the plus side, it was in the 70s when I got there. I then proceeded to bike up the Ojai-Ventura Bike Path but, instead of going all the way to Ojai, I took a side trip to Lake Casitas instead. The Path is closed to vehicles and fairly attractive. I only saw a few others riding real bikes; the majority were riding eBikes. The road to Casitas had some traffic, but it wasn't that bad.
And, that's where I got the pic of my bike next to a fence.
Not all adventures are spectacular.
