This post should be filled with pics from Death Valley, except I went there during a heatwave so I wasn't going to do much hiking. The first day I just lounged around Furnace Creek enjoying the heat. In the shade, not exerting myself, the heat was really great. It was, per my car's thermometer, about 118F or 120F. Others, of course, might think that's a tad too hot.
After my outdoor sauna, I was running low on gas and I foolishly (a word that comes easily for me) declined to get gas at the price shown below. I also foolishly didn't check which roads were open. I was going to go up Daylight Pass but I only found out it was closed when I got there. I limped back out of Death Valley via Amargosa Valley and barely made it to the pump at the casino.
The next morning it was merely 100F and I was going to bike Twenty Mule Team Canyon, but I only found out when I got there that I'd dropped the front axle nut chez moi (it was still there when I got back). Since biking was out and hiking wasn't advisable, I just walked out at Badwater as soon as it warmed up a bit.
