If you want to amuse and amaze your future ex-friends, let them know that it snows each year in the City of Los Angeles. Yes, that's right, it snows here each year!
That's because the highest point in the City (not the County) is Mt Lukens, an imposing edifice that rises to a Himalayan 5,075' in height.
OK, so it's not that great and it's full of communication towers. So, if you hope to have kids, don't hang out there too long.
To speed my getaway, I biked it (with, admittedly, a little hiking because I was basically doing intervals). I started at the fire station that's about 3 miles north of the 210 on the Angeles Crest (if parking there, make sure not to block ingress/egress) and biked up the wide fire road. At this time it's a little looser than I'd like, and there are also plenty of rocks. Not rock gardens, just rocks. And, also the occasional rut. Aside from a couple of short stretches, it's all downhill once you get the peak.
Unfortunately, some ahole stole the sign that was on the rock where you see my bike. There's also, at least AFAICT, no register.
While the summit is not at all aesthetic, it does have good views. And, the fire road is long enough that you get different views into the San Gabriels. Plus, you can get going fairly fast on the downhill. Just be careful you don't go flying off the road.
The mailbox is for a non-occupied leaseholding that has bee boxes and... a teepee.
