Twas a blustery, wintry day when I set off on my expedition to the distant peak...
OK, I just biked Verdugo Peak like I have a few times before, but this time I did it via Chandler Motorway. The route starts in a residential neighborhood up a hill in Sun Valley.
The first mile is quite steep, especially the segment before La Tuna Peak (which, frankly, isn't much of a peak). After that it mellows out and, while there are some rocks and currently there are a couple of loose parts, it's all a wide, non-technical fire road. After the first mile there are only a few steep bits. It does lose some elevation on the ascent so you'll need to make that up on the return; I dropped and raised my saddle a few times on the way back.
The temps were low 60s to mid-50s with a breeze in parts. All during the ride it felt like the weather was saying, "I'm going to rain, just not yet". While I would have preferred the warmer temps we'd had just before, this weather was surprisingly OK. Unfortunately, on the way back I saw several people who appeared to agree. While it wasn't crowded, it was more than I would have expected. Most appeared to have come up via Stough Canyon.
In keeping with the weather and the season, I decided to focus my top notch photographic skills on bare trees, or the SoCal equivalent of them.
