Poor Shelby: so close to Canada and so far from California.
Population 3,270, Shelby is a small agricultural community at the far northern edge of Montana, just 30 miles south of our hat. I stayed there at the Oyo Motel on my way to Glacier, and then again when I was leaving. It's home to some Hutterite families and others. It also has a carousel that a local town leader created; that was closed when I was there but there's a picture below.
In 1923 the town hosted a heavyweight boxing match with Jack Dempsey and that explains a couple of the other pictures.
From the Small World Dept, one of the people at Glacier who dealt with getting people on and off the shuttle was from Shelby. I guess that's not that surprising since they aren't all that far apart.
