I'm sacrificing my healthy eating for you, the least you can do is reimburse me for the $7.60.
First, I watch what I eat as I desperately try to drag myself below 200lbs (down from 286lbs several years ago).
Second, I try to avoid post-hike hunger pangs by having something lower in calories, like an orange or a "Fat Free Tuna Salad" kit (tuna + crackers) from Aldi that, while it has a lot of ingredients, is just 150 calories total.
Third, I try to avoid fast food because it's almost always high in calories, low in nutrition, and uneconomical. One pound of chicken thighs costs less than almost all fast food meals and - antibiotics aside - is a lot healthier for you.
All that said, I premeditated this review. I planned to hike Mt Bliss and then afterwards try the Der Wienerschnitzel Fish and Chips. In fact, I did a search beforehand to see if they offer malt vinegar and, since it looked like they don't, I brought my own (the best I could get from a store rather than online).
On to the review.
The first shocking thing was I paid $7.60 for something that fits in a hotdog box. Their "fish and chips" consists of two long fish sticks and standard DW fries. Their fries aren't that good and fish and chips fries (or "chips" as some call them) should be more like steak fries. These were the normal narrow variety you'd get if you ordered, say, a "kraut dog".
The fish itself was perhaps a little fishier than some might want but it wasn't that bad. I don't know if it was from a filet or was an extruded job. The batter wasn't as bad as it could be but it was perhaps the most disappointing part. I guess it was part panko crumbs rather than being more like a beer batter.
It came with tarter sauce which I tried but since I rarely eat tartar sauce I don't know how it stacks up. I had put some salt on the fries but I shouldn't have as they were already salty enough.
Overall, on a 5 scale, I'm giving this a 2.5. I'd never buy it again at that price unless there was nothing else available. Not that it was horrible, it just wasn't good enough.
Note: I got this from the Monrovia CA location but I'd be surprised if other locations are any better.
