One of the top questions I get is, "Are there really bison in Santa Clarita, California?" And, the answer is yes, there are.
They're at the William S. Hart Park. It's part of the L.A. County system and it was donated by the silent-era western film star. It has various attractions including a petting zoo and a nature trail that circumnavigates the 265-acre property.
After my two failures but before my other success, I visited this park and biked the nature trail (which I think is legit). Unfortunately, it's hard to get a shot that doesn't involve something man-made in it because the area has since been heavily developed. However, the canyon just before the bison enclosure is attractive.
I thought the park was about to close so I didn't spend much time there but next time I might bring a chair. More importantly, I might see if I can find a way to take pictures of the bison that don't have the fence in the way (short of committing suicide by climbing the fence). Oddly enough, there was no one else around; I would have thought that area would be packed given how many people were at the petting zoo.
As far as tourist attractions go, this is recommended.
